Pistang Pilipino sa Wellington 2026
Sports General Rules & Eligibility
These general rules establish the participation, eligibility, conduct and competition requirements for sporting events held as part of Pistang Pilipino sa Wellington 2026. Individual sports may have additional rules specific to their competition.
Club and Participant Eligibility
All participants must represent or be affiliated with a recognised club, society or sporting organisation accepted by the event’s Sports Committee.
A participant must also fall within at least one of the following eligibility categories:
- A Filipino by birth or naturalisation.
- The spouse or partner of a Filipino.
- A person of Filipino descent.
Participants representing a club, society or sporting organisation must be members in good standing with their organisation and comply with any applicable membership requirements established for the competition.
Clubs, societies and sporting organisations must identify their New Zealand location when registering.
Partners and Spouses of Filipinos
A participant qualifying through their relationship with a Filipino spouse or partner may be required to provide reasonable evidence that the relationship and shared residence requirements are satisfied.
Supporting documentation may include documents showing both individuals at the same residential address, such as:
- Joint bank correspondence or account documentation
- Telephone or utility bills
- Power bills
- Insurance documents
- Other documentation accepted by the Sports Committee
Where a shared-residence requirement applies, evidence may be required to demonstrate that the couple has resided at the same address for at least three months before the tournament.
Failure to provide satisfactory evidence when requested may result in the participant being declared ineligible.
Age-Restricted Competitions
Participants entering an age-based division must be able to verify their date of birth.
Acceptable identification may include a:
- Passport
- New Zealand driver licence
- Kiwi Access Card or other recognised 18+ identification
- Student identification showing date of birth
- Birth certificate
- Other official identification accepted by the Sports Committee
Players should have the required identification available before competition begins.
Participants who cannot establish their eligibility for an age-restricted division may not be permitted to compete in that division.
Pre-Event Eligibility Verification
Where eligibility documentation is required, participants should submit the requested evidence to the Sports Committee before the tournament.
The committee may retain appropriate records necessary to verify eligibility and administer the competition.
Documentation presented only on the day of competition may not be accepted where advance verification was required.
Ineligible Participants
A participant may be considered ineligible where they do not satisfy the applicable eligibility requirements for their competition or cannot provide the required evidence.
Consequences of Ineligibility
Where an ineligible participant takes part in a competition, the Sports Committee may impose consequences appropriate to the circumstances and the rules of the relevant sport.
These may include player disqualification, forfeiture of results or points obtained while the ineligible player participated, or other competition sanctions.
Sportsmanship and Participant Conduct
All participants are expected to demonstrate respect toward teammates, opponents, officials, volunteers and spectators.
Competitors represent not only themselves but also their clubs and communities. Good sportsmanship, appropriate behaviour and respect for decisions made by competition officials are expected throughout the event.
Participation constitutes acceptance of the applicable competition rules and the decisions of the authorised Sports Committee and event officials.
Player Safety
Participants must use the appropriate clothing, footwear and protective equipment required for their sport. This includes suitable sporting footwear and, where applicable, knee protection or other sport-specific safety equipment.
Every participant is responsible for ensuring that they are appropriately prepared to participate.
Participants are also expected to be physically capable of taking part safely in their chosen competition.
Event organisers and officials may intervene where necessary to protect participants and maintain a safe competition environment.
Spectator Safety
Spectators must remain outside designated playing areas while games are underway unless specifically authorised by an official.
Children must be appropriately supervised and kept in safe spectator areas.
Officials may delay or suspend a game until safety concerns around the playing area have been addressed.
Registration and Team Capacity
Registration for Pistang Pilipino sa Wellington 2026 sports competitions must be completed through the official Pistang Pilipino website.
Registration places may be limited according to venue capacity, court availability and the requirements of each sport.
Where capacity is limited, registrations may be handled on a first-completed, first-confirmed basis, subject to eligibility and any applicable payment requirements.
Where an affiliated organisation enters more teams than the guaranteed allocation for a competition, additional teams may be placed on a waiting list. Available places can then be offered to waitlisted teams according to the competition’s published allocation process.
Defaulting or Failing to Attend Games
Teams are expected to attend and participate in all scheduled games.
The defaulting provisions exist to discourage teams from deliberately failing to appear for scheduled matches after deciding that a game has little or no effect on their competition standing.
A team that fails to appear for a scheduled match without an acceptable reason may be subject to the rules and penalties established for that sport.
Fighting and Bench Conduct
Physical fighting between players or team-bench personnel is prohibited. A fine of $500 will be imposed on any team, player, official, or supporter found to be involved in fighting.
Players, substitutes or team personnel who leave the bench area to participate in a fight, confrontation or developing altercation may be disqualified.
Only authorised coaching personnel should leave the bench where their intervention is reasonably necessary to assist officials in restoring or maintaining order.
A coach or assistant coach who leaves the bench and contributes to the confrontation, rather than assisting officials, may also be subject to disqualification or disciplinary action.
Additional sanctions may be imposed under the rules of the relevant sport.
Protests
A registered club or team may lodge a protest where its interests have been materially affected by an eligible competition matter.
A protest may relate to matters such as:
- A significant scoring, timekeeping or shot-clock error that was not corrected by the officials.
- A decision concerning forfeiture, cancellation, postponement, abandonment or failure to commence or resume a game.
- An alleged breach of participant eligibility requirements.
Authority of Officials
The Sports Committee and authorised competition officials may enforce applicable sporting rules and reasonable event-specific rules necessary to protect participants, preserve fair competition and maintain a safe environment.
Decisions should be made consistently with the published rules for Pistang Pilipino sa Wellington 2026 and the applicable rules of each sport.
